The 9th Annual Bearcat Benefit, Command Performance, held on October 5th in the Bayview Dining Room at the College of San Mateo, was truly a performance worthy of a standing ovation.

More than 200 enthusiastic attendees were treated to breathtaking views of the Bay as they enjoyed:

• A Paparazzi Pre-Party, where Bravo-level donors were treated to delicious appetizers, signature cocktails, and gift bags, all while serenaded by the SMHS Bella Sinfonia
  
• More than 130 exquisitely arranged Silent Auction items featuring everything from exotic jewelry and clothing to fun Pay-to-Play parties
  
• A delectable three course buffet dinner catered by Pacific Dining
  
• An energetic Live Auction led by Auctioneer Gary Gerber, featuring popular favorites like the Science Department Surf & Turf Dinner, PTO Tailgate Party, Grand Graduation, and new items such as Bollywood Movie Night
  
• Command Performances by the cast of SMHS Drama's Drowsy Chaperone and by SMHS Dance students, including an unforgettable tap routine honoring the legendary Bill Robinson
  

Thanks to the huge success of the Bearcat Benefit, which raised almost $90,000 through sponsorships and silent and live auction proceeds, the Foundation can continue to support important programs that directly benefit SMHS students and staff, including the Barbara Snider College Pathways program, essential classroom supplies, technology Improvements, and professional development opportunities for teachers. More than $18,000 was collected through Fund-A-Need, helping pay for state-of-the-art speakers in all classrooms and three new SmartBoards.

Just as no performance can be successful without a strong conductor or director, the success of this year's Bearcat Benefit would not have been possible without the leadership and dedication of Chair Laurie Daniels. Laurie's passion for San Mateo High School and the Bearcat community was evident in every aspect of the Benefit.

However, it truly does take a village to put on an event like this, and our heartfelt gratitude goes to the amazing team of volunteers who made this Benefit so memorable. While the committee list is too long to name everyone, the Foundation extends special thanks to the following individuals who were key to the Benefit: Elana Citrin for her help in securing amazing auction items, Jeanette Otus for putting together wonderful silent auction baskets and for transforming the Bayview Dining Room into a stunning venue with her d'ecor, Momoe Sasaki for helping with every aspect of the Benefit, Carol Rossi for her efforts in securing sponsorships, Jana Fore for organizing a truly memorable Bravo Pre-party, Auctioneer Gary Gerber for his skill in encouraging Bearcats to bid high, Charlie Royce for his expertise with music, presentations, and all things tech, Will Stein for making our computers work, Lee Pantuso for being the Checkout leader, Rosie Issel for her help with publicity, and last but most of all, Julie Borden, for her can-do attitude and her continued incredible support to the San Mateo High School Foundation.
